DISCOVER THE RIVAL WORLD

Ola Aurell, May 22

Saturday, May 22

New songs, new jokes, and new antics.

Humanity’s Happiest Time. Ola Aurell attempts to answer the eternal questions of where we really come from, where on earth we’re headed—and whether things might have been even worse in the past. This is a comedy show that delves into both anxiety about the future and nostalgia.

Following the success of “Mr. Aurell’s Almost Appropriate Songs,” which played to sold-out houses across the country, Ola Aurell is back with a brand-new musical comedy show. New songs, new jokes, and new antics. He asks us if things were better in the past. Is a dystopia just around the corner? Were older generations constantly tipsy? Who took the last Tiger Cake? Will artificial intelligence take our jobs? Was the phone book the pinnacle of our civilization?

Here, the Vasa ship’s brief maiden voyage, the hockey fan, and an existential fear of old age coexist with the comforting certainty that the pocket flask will, at any rate, survive the collapse of civilization. As always, Ola Aurell’s charming prose is interwoven with tastelessness, playful jabs, and hidden nerdy references. History, the present, and anxiety about the future all get their well-deserved jabs. Tickets here.

To raise the bar as high as the ceiling, he’s bringing rising stars Sand & Hallander along on the tour. Their retro-sounding harmonies leave a strong mark on Ola Aurell’s new album, which is being released this winter, so it felt like an absolute must to have them as backing musicians.
Saturday, May 22 at Rival—get tickets here!

It is allowed to bring beer and wine, purchased at the bar, into the theatre during the performance.
